PERIWINKLE ISLAND is based upon the statement —And there was light

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine” - is what PERIWINKLE ISLAND is all about – shining brightly and positively. The characters all join in to illustrate some of the basics of life so it will be easier and therefore more fun.

Zane is so very curious and asks those special questions with her beloved golden retriever always by her side. She is safe.

Davey the Dove introduces us to his many fine friends who delight in expounding their views.

All of the characters wear hats. I liked the era of hats. Until recently, Davey wore the NATO beret. I tried one on once and it was quite fun. I just do not believe that the French play fair and so … one day, President and Mrs. George W. Bush were abroad and greeted with ugly protestors carrying caricatures of a cowboy. Well, it made me mad. That was my president being berated … so Davey’s beret became a cowboy hat. It is a western symbol and our country’s president is the leader of the western world. I haven’t asked him if that was okay.

Our country must unite within ourselves and with other lands on this great planet. We do not know who or what is watching us and we are not prepared. PERIWINKLE ISLAND is designed to teach positive attitudes to young and old alike –(parents and grandparents read to our young ones) so that when a crisis arrives, it can more readily be survived, causing less stress and perhaps alleviating disease.

From the office of the First Lady is the following:  “Mrs. Bush believes that reading is the most powerful tool to start children on the path to lifelong learning.  Children who read at home with their family or with a caring adult learn two things:  Reading is important, and they are important.

As a former public school teacher and librarian, wife and mother, Mrs. Laura Bush believes that when parents, educators, volunteers, and community leaders work together, no child will be left behind”.  PERIWINKLE ISLAND does not want a child left behind.  We would like for our children to think with a positive attitude to make this world a better place.  We must work together toward this goal.  Words are the directions, we need cohesive action.
